****Spoiler Alert****I tried. I really tried but I just could not with this story. First, Margaret is a thoroughly unlikeable character - selfish and immature at 19 and 47 years of age. Secondly, she seemed almost incapable of learning so every 6 chapters or so it just seemed like the same old story of "can I forgive, maybe I can, I have hope, he did what?!" and off she runs. Seriously, I was voting for Sean to get a clue and leave this horrible woman behind for good. Thirdly, Margaret seems morally and ethically challenged - unilaterally deciding to take a child from her father is morally repugnant if not illegal and, coupling that with denying the same child her grandmother, much further than I wanted to go in what is supposed to be a feel good romance. It did not feel good. At best it was boring. At worst, Margaret is emotionally abusive to her mother and Sean and it's very difficult to "listen" to her go on and on about how hurt/upset/angry she is when she brought most of her troubles on herself. Margaret O’Brien and Sean Burke fall in love in the Irish sea coast village of Grace’s Cove, where legends and rumors of magic abound. After making love for the first time, a mystical event scares Sean into fleeing the scene and avoiding Margaret. After finding out she is pregnant and with no word from Sean, Margaret is heartbroken and flees to Boston to begin a new life with her baby-to-be. She never wants to see Ireland again.Twenty years later, Margaret’s daughter Keelin, has gone to Ireland to learn about her family roots. While there, she finds she has a special “gift,” half-siblings she never knew about and a father she never met. She also finds true love.Reluctantly, Margaret goes to Ireland for her daughter’s wedding. When she sees Sean again, the sparks are reignited.
